What is Adjustment of status?

 Adjustment of status (AOS) is a procedure that allows an eligible applicant to become a lawful permanent resident (LPR) of the United States without need of applying for an immigrant visa outside the U.S.

Applicants can file adjustment applications at the same time that they file family- or employment-based petitions, if the visa quota has not been reached at the time of filing
