The Dream Act
-- 20 April 2009 --
The Gehi & Associates is proud to support The DREAM Act. Developed by Senators Richard Durbin (Illinois) and Richard Lugar (Indiana), and Congressmen Howard Berman (California) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (Florida), the Act helps young people obtain United States citizenship. Each year, 65,000 undocumented immigrant students graduate from high school and are left with few options for their future.
Their greatest desire is to become a United States citizen, and thanks to legislation such as the DREAM Act, those desires may become a reality. The Development, Relief and Education of Minors Act (DREAM Act) is designed to grant graduating high school seniors a path toward citizenship. Through the option of enlisting in the military or attending college, these students may be granted United States citizenship.
In order to qualify, individuals must have entered the United States before 16 years of age, must have been in the US for five years prior to the passage of the bill, have graduated from a high school in the Unites States, and must be between the ages of 12-35. In addition, all candidates must demonstrate good moral character.
The Gehi & Associates encourages anyone who supports this legislation to petition their Senators and/or Congressman for the passage of this Bill. It is entitled S. 729 in the Senate and H.R. 1751 in the House.
